About the Text

A young boy, who was a realized soul, narrated his experience of Self- Knowledge to Bhagavan Shri Adi Shankaracharya. To the boy, this knowledge was clear as ‘a gooseberry’ (amalaka) kept on the palm (hasta) and so he was named Hastamalaka.  Hastamalaka Stotram is the commentary of Adi Shankaracharya on this conversation and represents the quintessence of the marvelous boy disciple’s spiritual experience.
